How to use face mapping for skin health.

Did you know the skin is the largest organ of the body? Anything happening internally will eventually make its way to the surface of the skin, showing as imbalances. The ancient practice of face mapping has gained popularity again in recent years and is a useful tool in understanding what the skin is trying to tell us.  As a holistic skincare practitioner,  this is a common practice used in treatments to help better understand what is happening internally and to help better address the guest’s personal skincare needs.

Face Mapping has been used in Ayurvedic practices, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM, and even in Japanese practices. Through this modality, practitioners are able to understand imbalances in the skin, such as acne, breakouts, inflammation, and other skin issues that can be related to organs and even trapped emotions in the body. At Everly Grace Beauty we use an Oriental method, studies under ASTECC Advanced Spa Therapies, and many years of reading and working with skin to better understand imbalances.

What is your skin telling you?

Forehead:

Finding imbalances on the forehead can be related to a poor diet as well as nervous system imbalances/concerns/issues. When we find breakouts or redness in this area, lifestyle changes, as well as ways to de-stress the body and mind, are recommended.

Temples:

Temples are linked to Galblad Hydration is very important as well as addressing any inflammation or infection in the body.

Third Eye (Between the brows):

This area is related to the liver and our body’s ability to detox properly. Pay attention to lifestyle and eating habits as well as emotions in the body. The liver is said to have the emotion of anger if out of balance or we are holding on to emotions.

Eyes:

The kidneys show up around the eyes through puffiness, bags, and dry skin. Hydration is important and helpful in balancing this area.

Nose:

The nose is related to the heart. Imbalances can show up with color, capillaries, lines, and blackheads. Skin concerns here can show us deficiencies as well as signs of blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure issues.

Cheeks:

The cheeks show imbalances in the lungs as well as environmental stressors.

Mouth:

The area around the mouth can show imbalances in hormones, colon, and stomach health. The sides of the mouth reflect the large and small intestines. Looking at the color, texture of the skin, and hydration are all important when understanding imbalances in the body.

Chin:

The center of the chin shows digestion issues, and the sides of the chin may be reflecting concerns with our adrenal glands.

Jawline:

The jawline can show up as reproductive health imbalances/concerns/issues.

Observing the color, texture, and hydration of the skin are all important when understanding the potential imbalances in the body.  After assessing your skin and your overall health some treatments may be recommended such as:

  • Hydration and herbs

  • Accupunture to move qi and energy in the body

  • Energy work for stored emotions

  • Meditative practices and yoga

  • Lifestyle and diet changes

It is important to remember that when working with the skin in a more holistic way, we are working on making long-term lifestyle changes and things can take time to move out of the system. Remember that this process will take time, and the timeline will be different for everyone. So, just enjoy the journey of getting to know your skin, body and soul on this healthful journey.
